Friday Greetings,

This week, Parks & Recreation welcomed two new employees – Maliyah Shelton started as a part-time Administrative Assistant and Grace Martens started as a Seasonal Worker.  Welcome Aboard!

Last weekend, the City hosted the annual Pet Vaccination Event at City Hall.  The mobile vet administered 51 vaccinations and 41 animals were licensed.

As of May 5, North Kansas City Fire Department personnel had vaccinated 6,882 people at Operation Safe.

On Thursday, May 6, Operation Safe held its last vaccination clinic on the Cerner campus. Operation Safe administered almost 100,000 vaccinations during 32 clinics, with the help of 4,250 volunteers providing over 50,000 hours of service.  The Operation Safe team is proud to have served our community with this critical effort, beginning with vaccinating the area’s most vulnerable population at a time when vaccine availability was scarce. Operation Safe is a coalition consisting of Clay County Public Health Center, North Kansas City Hospital, Liberty Hospital, Cerner Corporation, and the cities of Liberty, Gladstone, North Kansas City, Smithville, Kearney and Excelsior Springs, William Jewell College, and Excelsior Springs Hospital.  For more information on where to find a COVID-19 vaccine, please visit the Clay County Public Health Center website at www.clayhealth.com/311/Where-to-Get-Vaccinated

On Thursday, May 6, Heart to Heart International held a second-dose vaccine clinic at City Hall.  Clay County Public Health Center partnered with Heart to Heart International to host a series of clinics around Clay County targeted at harder to reach clients.

The Community Development Department issues a wide variety of commercial and residential building and construction permits. Permit activity is beginning to increase after a winter lull. Community Development issued 87 permits through the end of April; this is one more permit than issued in the first four months of 2020.

Starting on Monday, May 12 at 7 a.m., Howell Street at 13th Avenue will be closed to thru traffic to allow for a stormwater repair until Monday, May 17 at 5 p.m., weather pending.  13th Avenue will remain open and traffic will be detoured around the Howell Street closure.  Area businesses will have access to their facilities.
