The Planning Commission is responsible for the creating and updating the City’s Master Plan, which makes recommendations for land use and physical development in North Kansas City. It is also responsible for the approval of public improvements, public facilities and utilities, subdivisions, and building setbacks. The Planning Commission consists of five Mayor-appointed citizen members, the Mayor, and a Councilmember selected by their peers.
The Planning Commission meets on the first Thursday of each month, when there is a case for their consideration.
The Board of Zoning Adjustment hears any cases of appeal regarding administrative decisions and any requests of variance from the Zoning Code. The Board of Zoning Adjustment consists of five residents of the City.
The Board meets on an as-needed basis when cases requiring their review are received.
