Community Development staff serve as professional liaisons for the Board of Zoning Adjustment and the Planning Commission.

The Planning Commission is responsible for the creating and updating the City’s Master Plan, which makes recommendations for land use and physical development in North Kansas City. It is also responsible for the approval of public improvements, public facilities and utilities, subdivisions, and building setbacks. The Planning Commission consists of five Mayor-appointed citizen members, the Mayor, and a Councilmember selected by their peers.

The Planning Commission meets on the first Thursday of each month, when there is a case for their consideration.
