Planning and Coordination
A major responsibility of the Community Development Department is the planning and coordination of publicly-funded projects across the City. These projects, such as a streetscape beautification or a multi-modal cycle track, consist of many different steps.
Public Project Timeline
When the City uses public dollars to fund a project, that project is held to a standard of transparency that results in the public being able to follow the project as it progresses and give input where relevant.
The timeline of a single project often spans many years, where the actual construction is often the last phase of many.
A single City project can include many or all of these steps:
-
Requests for Qualifications or Proposals -- used for feasibility studies, project proposals, or construction services.
-
Staff and City Council Review of Proposed Plans -- with a subsequent plan selection and award of contract.
-
Community Engagement -- Opportunities to gather resident and business input on function or design choice.
