Friday Greetings,

After 26 years of dedicated service to North Kansas City, Officer Masterson retired from the Police Department on December 2.  Please join the Police Department in congratulating Officer Masterson on his retirement and wish him well in his future adventures.  Officer Masterson has been approved to become a Reserve Police Officer for the City, so you may still see him around from time to time.

Alex Wilson will join the NKC Fire Department as a Firefighter/Paramedic on December 13.  Welcome aboard!

The Police Department will host their inaugural Chat with the Chief event on December 15 from 6-8 p.m. in the Police Community Room located on the City Hall campus.  Topics will include year in review information, an introduction of their new community crime map, and an open Q & A for those in attendance.

The first day of candidate filing is Tuesday, December 7, at 8 a.m. at City Hall.  This year’s election is for one Councilmember from Wards 1, 2, 3, and 4. The following positions are up for election this year:
o Ward 1: Councilmember 2-year term
o Ward 2: Councilmember 2-year term
o Ward 3: Councilmember 2-year term
o Ward 4: Councilmember 2-year term

Even as the year winds down and the weather grows colder, development projects in North Kansas City continue to move forward. The Community Development Department reviews plans, issues permits, and inspects development progress happening across the City. The department issued 20 permits for various residential and commercial projects in November 2021, compared to 21 permits issued in November 2020. The department has issued 235 permits thus far in 2021, compared to 213 permits issued between January and November of 2020. The department monitors and compares the number of permits issued in order to identify areas of growth and opportunity across the City.
