City Services and Program Changes

The health and safety of our community is our highest priority.  The Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread throughout the country.  At this time, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Clay County.  Staff is working with public health officials and emergency management professionals to monitor and adjust operations for the global COVID-19 or coronavirus outbreak.

In an effort to continue to protect our residents, visitors, and employees, and reduce the spread of the COVID-19, the City of North Kansas City announces the following changes in services, closures, and cancellations.

City Facilities

Fire Stations 1 & 2 will remain closed to the public.  City Hall lobby is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.  Customers are encouraged to conduct business with the City through City’s website, phone or email.

Public Meetings

City Council and Planning Commission Meetings

City Council and Planning Commission Meetings will be held remotely for the safety of the City Council, Commissioners, employees, and the public. Meetings will be broadcast via the City’s YouTube Channel and Channel 2 (Spectrum).

Water Utility Bills & Service

Customers may continue to make payments through the drop box located at City Hall, by mail or online.  Customers are encouraged to pay their utility bills via the City’s online payment portal.

Fire Department

The fire department has implemented operational adjustments including the suspension of non-essential activities including public outreach and fire station tours.   When requesting fire or EMS services, please continue to call 9-1-1 for emergencies and 816-274-6025 for non-emergencies.

North Kansas City Parks & Recreation

North Kansas City Parks and Recreation Board met on July 9, 2020 to discuss the re-opening plan for Dagg Park spray ground and all playground systems in North Kansas City parks. The Board unanimously voted to keep the spray ground and all playgrounds closed until Clay County Recovery Plan is in Phase 3: Establish Protection Then Lift All Restrictions. Phase 3 will introduce long-term solutions to mitigate the spread of disease and lift all restrictions associated with COVID-19.

When Clay County has reached this phase, all playgrounds will be open and if weather permits, the spray ground at Dagg Park will open.

We appreciate your understanding in this difficult decision; we deem it our responsibility to ensure the safety and welfare of our community and park patrons.

North Kansas City Library

North Kansas City Public Library is pleased to announce the initial phase of a return to normal operations later this month, as local stay-at-home orders expire throughout the metro area.

Beginning Tuesday, May 26, the Library will offer curbside pick-up of hold items. Starting that day, patrons may place Library holds online, or call the Library to place holds. Once items are available, patrons may call to schedule a pickup time in the Library’s designated parking lot pickup area.

To maintain the recommended social distancing guidance, this transfer process will be entirely touchless. Currently, the Library plans to offer curbside service Monday-Thursday (10 am-2 pm and 4-8 pm), Friday (10 am-5 pm), and Saturday (10 am-4 pm). These curbside pickup times may be adjusted, if needed.
