Friday Greetings,

  • A huge shout-out to our City crews—especially the Public Works team—for their extraordinary storm response efforts this week.  Staff have worked nearly around the clock clearing storm debris, assessing damage to City trees and public facilities, conducting life-safety evaluations, issuing emergency permits for contractors, coordinating same-day inspections, and responding to resident and business needs following the storm.  The Community Development Department identified five residential units with significant structural damage and continues to work closely with affected property owners to help begin repairs as quickly as possible. We are incredibly grateful for the dedication, professionalism, and teamwork demonstrated by our employees during this challenging week.

     

  • Congratulations to Will Grefrath, Parks Recreation Supervisor and 2026 Leadership Northland class graduate! Leadership Northland is an intensive program devoted to strengthening and educating area business and community professionals, hosted by the Northland Regional Chamber of Commerce.

     

  • On Thursday, NKC Police & Fire Departments visited the Children's Learning Center at NKC Health to give the students a memorable experience. 

     

  • Introducing a brand-new opportunity for North Kansas City's youth! We are excited to launch the NEW Youth NKC Citizens Academy—a fun, hands-on program designed to help young residents learn how their city works and discover ways to become active community leaders.  Participants will go behind the scenes with City departments, meet local leaders, experience mock City Council and Municipal Court activities, learn about public safety, and develop leadership and civic engagement skills.  Session 1 (Ages 8–12): July 20–23, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.; Session 2 (Ages 13–17): July 27–30, 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Participants must be the qualifying age at the time of the session.  Space is very limited, so register today!  www.nkc.org/youthacademy

 

  • The NKC Road District’s street maintenance program operations are in full swing. The work will take place in four separate sections throughout the community. Residents and motorists are encouraged to exercise caution in work zones and to expect occasional traffic impacts during construction.   • Have you ever wondered what a future streetcar connection between Kansas City and North Kansas City could look like?  Join the KC Streetcar Authority and project partners on Thursday, June 11, from 4-6 p.m. at Cinder Block Brewery for a NorthRail Open House and learn about the latest progress on the study exploring a potential streetcar connection to North Kansas City.  No formal presentation is planned—just stop by anytime during the event to learn more and join the conversation about the future of regional transit.

     

  • Only one week away from NKC's Arts in the Park Festival!  Art, music, food, brews, and more to enjoy right in North Kansas City's backyard at Macken Park. Friday, June 12, from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. You won't want to miss the celebration of 10 years! Full festivities at www.artsinthepark.org.

     

  • Save the Date!  We will be cutting the ribbon on River Forest Park on Thursday, June 18, at 4 p.m.!  Details coming soon, but we hope to see you there!

     

  • Join Compost NKC on Saturday, June 27, at 10 a.m. at Macken Park for a free training session and discover how easy it is to compost food scraps and other compostable materials at home.
