North Kansas City is kicking-off a new Master Plan process to provide the community with a compelling vision and plan that will guide future growth for years to come. The plan focuses on land use, transportation, education, parks and trails, development patterns, housing types, infrastructure, and economic development. It also includes a parking study focused on the downtown area and neighborhood blocks near the high school. The process will be guided by the Planning Department along with the Olsson team, Land Use USA, TYLin, and Venice Communications.
The public is invited to engage in the Master Plan process by visiting www.Northtown2040.com to sign up to learn more about the plan and the engagement schedule. The public is also encouraged to complete the Community Questionnaire to help inform the team about public priorities. The City is also hoping to create a robust Steering Committee of property owners, business owners, residents, representatives of prospective property developers, seniors and students. If you would like to join, please fill out the online form.
Pop-Up Events. The public is encouraged to stop by one of four planned pop-up events and share your initial thoughts about what you would like to see in the plan. These will be fun, interactive opportunities to help shape the future of North KC.

Visioning Workshop – This full-day event will include sessions with the Planning Commission and City Council, and also the Steering Committee and Technical Committee. These small group interactive discussions will help to gain insight into the needs and desires of the participants and will result in the development of an initial Vision and set of Guiding Principles for the Master Plan.
Planning & Design Charrette – The Olsson Team will then conduct this two-day in-person process to engage the community in an interactive discussion using imagery, graphics, analysis, and mapping, and to share preliminary planning concepts to validate the draft Vision and Guiding Principles and determine major goals moving forward. The first day is dedicated to input from the Steering and Technical Committee, who are invited to look at exhibits and spark conversations about the plan goals. The second day, the public is invited to an in-person and online Community Open House to view progress from the charrette and share feedback. To learn more, please visit www.Northtown2040.com.
