The City publishes Week in Review (WIR) weekly to inform the community about local news.

Post Date:03/20/2026 2:00 PM

Friday Greetings,

  • Communications Officer Doris Dodd was recognized this week with the first-ever Clay County Prosecutor’s PROPS Award for Exemplary Civilian Service. With 23 years of dedicated service, her professionalism, commitment, and behind-the-scenes impact continue to make a lasting difference in our department and the community we serve.  Congratulations!

  • Congratulations to Kim Nakahodo, Deputy City Administrator, on being recognized as one of America’s 250 Champions of Public Service.  This recognition is part of Local Gov 250, a nationwide initiative highlighting the vital role of government as the United States approaches its 250th anniversary. The award program is administered by the National Academy of Public Administration, which selected 250 public servants from across the country for their outstanding dedication to public service.

  • The NKC Candidate Forum will be held on Tuesday, March 24, from 6-7 p.m. The Forum will be held at City Hall in the Council Chambers and will be broadcast and available on our YouTube channel.  Residents can attend in person, watch live, or watch later.  NKC High School debate students will facilitate the Forum.  Questions can be emailed to city@nkc.org or dropped off at City Hall.  We may not be able to address all the questions, but the debate students will try to incorporate as many as they can into the Forum.

  • NKC Parks & Recreation is looking for artists with an affiliation to North Kansas City to create one-of-a-kind murals for benches made out of retired wind turbine blades! A theme is provided for each bench to fit the environment in which it will be installed. As these benches will be placed in parks, we strongly encourage an overall nature theme, with themes including pollinators, forest, and community. Deadline to apply is Sunday, April 5, by 11:59 pm. To learn more information or to apply, visit nkc.org/muralbenches.

  • March 15 through April 3, Waggin’ Trail Dog Park will be closed for aerating, seeding, and to give the grass time to establish and grow. Join us on April 4 for our annual dog Easter event, Boneanza, from 10:30 a.m. to Noon.

  • The 2026 Spring edition of the North Kansas City Connection has been loaded to the City’s website: www.nkc.org/NKCConnection.  Residents will receive their newsletters in the mail soon.

  • Applications are officially open for the 10th Annual Arts in the Park Festival in North Kansas City at Macken Park. Applications are available at www.artsinthepark.org/apply. Application deadline is Sunday, March 29, at 11:59 p.m.
