Friday Greetings,

  • On Tuesday, the City hosted an Open House to discuss the proposed Source Water Protection Plan. For more information, visit www.nkc.org/government/departments/source-water-protection-plan.

  • On Friday, the City participated in NKC High School’s 100th Anniversary Homecoming Parade!  Go Hornets!  Photos attached.

     

  • You’re Invited! Help Shape Safer Streets in North Kansas City.  The North Kansas City Comprehensive Safety Action Plan project is in full swing, and we need your input! Join us for an Open House on Monday, October 20, 2025, from 5-7 p.m. at the Inspire Studio at the YMCA (1999 Iron St, North Kansas City, MO 64116).  Come share your ideas on roadway safety and help us build a safer, more connected community for everyone!  Learn more here: www.nkc.org/safestreets.

     

  • A resident-led Ad Hoc Committee is working to launch a composting pilot program in early 2026! Secure drop-off bins (free to use!) would turn food scraps into nutrient-rich soil instead of harmful landfill waste.  Take the short survey to help choose bin locations and shape the future of composting in NKC! https://tinyurl.com/aujs52ek

     

  • Only 4 spots left for NKC Parks & Rec’s Bitty Basketball program! The program is a five-week instructional series designed for children ages 4–6 to learn the basics of basketball — dribbling, passing, and shooting on age-appropriate goals on Tuesdays, November 4 – December 8, from 5:30–6:15 p.m. (No class on November 25).   • Join NKC Parks & Rec and Mattie Rhodes for their annual Trunk or Treat on Saturday, October 25, from 1-3 p.m.  Trick-or-treat from trunk to trunk safely in the parking lot of the North Kansas City Parks & Rec Center.  Kids will also enjoy a mini pumpkin patch, raffle prizes, and more!  This event is free and open to the public; activities will be geared towards kids 13 and younger.  While supplies last.  The event will take place at 1201 Clark Ferguson Drive, NKC, MO 64116.

     

  • The resident-led Ad Hoc Committee is hosting a free Home Composting Workshop on Saturday, November 8, 10 a.m. in the Festival Shelter at Macken Park.  Please see the attached flyer for more information.

     

  • The City will dedicate the NKC Public Safety Memorial on Tuesday, October 28, at 6 p.m. at City Hall.

     

  • Mark your calendars for North Kansas City Parks & Recreation’s 8th annual Mistletowne Market. This small and thoughtfully curated artisan holiday market will be filled with local fine art and maker goods. The perfect destination to pick up one-of-a-kind gifts for your loved ones. In addition to the market, you will find baked goods for purchase from our North Kansas City Seniors, live musical performances, and more. Saturday, November 15, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Sunday, November 16, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

 

  • It’s block party season!  A block party is a great way to celebrate and encourage stronger communities.  North Kansas City residents may apply for a grant to host a neighborhood block party.  Each grant will reimburse eligible expenses up to $400 per event.  For more information on how to apply for a permit for a block party, please visit https://www.nkc.org/our-city/register-to-for/neighborhood-block-party-grants.
