• Last Saturday, the Fire Department hosted a retiree breakfast, bringing together current staff and retired members to share stories and reconnect. It was an excellent opportunity to honor their years of service and celebrate the lasting bonds within the NKC Fire family. (Photo attached.)

   

• A resident-led Ad Hoc Committee is working to launch a composting pilot program in early 2026! • The North Kansas City Community Enrichment Advisory Committee celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month. Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated from September 15 to October 15, is a month-long celebration of Hispanic and Latino history and culture. Throughout this month, we give extra recognition to the many contributions made to the history and culture of the United States by Hispanic Americans, including important advocacy work, vibrant art, popular and traditional foods, and much more.  Several events and activities are taking place across the Kansas City metro throughout Hispanic Heritage Month. • The North Kansas City Comprehensive Safety Action Plan project is in full swing, and we need your input! Please take a few minutes to complete our survey and help us make NKC streets safer for everyone. Scan the QR code on the attached flyer or visit www.nkc.org/safestreets to share your thoughts.

   

• This weekend is your last chance to apply to be a vendor at North Kansas City Park& Recreation’s Mistletowne Market! Applications are available on our website, www.artsinthepark.org/apply. The deadline for submitting is this Sunday, September 28, by 11:59 p.m.

   

• North Kansas City Parks & Recreation’s annual Howl-O-Ween event is just 2 weeks away! Join us at Waggin' Trail Dog Park on Saturday, October 11, from 10:30 a.m. to Noon for a dog costume contest, dog vendors, raffle prizes, photo op, and more!

   

• Clean, safe drinking water starts at the source. Protecting our source water helps reduce contamination, lower water treatment costs, and ensure a reliable supply for future generations.  We invite you to a public open house on Tuesday, October 14, from 3-7 p.m. at City Hall to learn about the City’s Source Water Protection Plan. • It’s block party season!  A block party is a great way to celebrate and encourage stronger communities.  North Kansas City residents may apply for a grant to host a neighborhood block party.  Each grant will reimburse eligible expenses up to $400 per event.  For more information on how to apply for a permit for a block party, please visit https://www.nkc.org/our-city/register-to-for/neighborhood-block-party-grants.
