• Courtney Riley returns to the Police Department as a police officer on Monday, September 22.  Welcome Back!

   

• The Citywide Garage Sale will be TOMORROW, Saturday, September 20.  We encourage you to take advantage of this event to clean out your homes and maybe even make a little money in the process.  The Citywide Garage Sale does not require a permit to participate.  In the event of inclement weather, this event will be rescheduled for the following Saturday, September 27.

   

• The City Council meeting regularly scheduled for the third Tuesday of the month has been moved to Tuesday, September 23, 6 p.m., due to the Missouri Municipal League annual conference next week.

   

• The 2025 Fall edition of the North Kansas City Connection has been loaded to the City's website: https://www.nkc.org/our-city/community-resources/nkc-connections.  Residents will receive their newsletters in the mail soon.

 

• A resident-led Ad Hoc Committee is working to launch a composting pilot program in early 2026! Secure drop-off bins (free to use!) would turn food scraps into nutrient-rich soil instead of harmful landfill waste.  Take the short survey to help choose bin locations and shape the future of composting in NKC! https://tinyurl.com/aujs52ek

   

• The North Kansas City Community Enrichment Advisory Committee celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month. Hispanic Heritage Month, celebrated from September 15 to October 15, is a month-long celebration of Hispanic and Latino history and culture. Throughout this month, we give extra recognition to the many contributions made to the history and culture of the United States by Hispanic Americans, including important advocacy work, vibrant art, popular and traditional foods, and much more.  Several events and activities are taking place across the Kansas City metro throughout Hispanic Heritage Month. • The North Kansas City Comprehensive Safety Action Plan project is in full swing, and we need your input! Please take a few minutes to complete our survey and help us make NKC streets safer for everyone. Scan the QR code on the attached flyer or visit www.nkc.org/safestreets to share your thoughts.

   

• North Kansas City Parks & Recreation is calling all artists & makers! Submit your application for Mistletowne Market, North Kansas City's premier small and thoughtfully curated artisan holiday market! Applications are available on our website, www.artsinthepark.org/apply. The deadline for submission is Sunday, September 28.

   

• North Kansas City Parks & Rec’s annual Howl-O-Ween event is just around the corner! Join us at Waggin' Trail Dog Park on Saturday, October 11, from 10:30 a.m. to Noon for a dog costume contest, dog vendors, raffle prizes, photo op, and more!

   

• Clean, safe drinking water starts at the source. Protecting our source water helps reduce contamination, lower water treatment costs, and ensure a reliable supply for future generations.  We invite you to a public open house on Tuesday, October 14, from 3-7 p.m. at City Hall to learn about the City’s Source Water Protection Plan. • It’s block party season!  A block party is a great way to celebrate and encourage stronger communities.  North Kansas City residents may apply for a grant to host a neighborhood block party.  Each grant will reimburse eligible expenses up to $400 per event.  For more information on how to apply for a permit for a block party, please visit https://www.nkc.org/our-city/register-to-for/neighborhood-block-party-grants.
