The City publishes Week in Review (WIR) weekly to inform the community about local news.

Post Date:08/15/2025 3:20 PM

Friday Greetings,

  • Areli Vasquez Nunez will start on Monday, August 18, as our new parking control attendant. Brian Owsley will start at the Water Services Plant on Thursday, August 21, as our Water Plant Operator. Welcome aboard!

  • On Monday, August 11th, the police department requested the assistance of the Kansas City Metropolitan Major Case Squad (Metro Squad) to assist in the investigation of the homicide that occurred near Missouri 210 and Taney St. With some outstanding initial work by the NKC Investigations unit, the Metro Squad investigated 51 case leads and expended 279.9 person hours on the case. The work concluded with the arrest and charges filed against the identified suspect. We are appreciative of the support and expertise of the Metro Squad investigators in cases like this.

  • The North Kansas City Special Road District will be performing roadway resurfacing work on several streets across the city over the next few weeks. Temporary closures and traffic impacts should be expected as crews work to maintain and improve our streets.  All work is weather-dependent.  Upcoming Work Schedule:
    • Saturday, August 16
      • Clay Street (14th to 16th Avenue): Expect delays with posted detours
      • 15th Avenue (Burlington to Clay Street): Expect delays with posted detours

We’ll be showing Dog Man starting around 8:30 p.m., so bring your blankets, chairs, family, and friends for a fun, free evening under the stars. Enjoy free pizza (one per family, while supplies last), take a photo at our Dog Man-themed photo op, pick up some fun freebies, and enter for a chance to win one of six raffle prizes. Don’t miss this opportunity to wrap up summer with your neighbors—see you tonight!

  • Join the Battle of the Badges!  Respond to the call to give blood at the NKC First Responders Blood Drive on Friday, August 29, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the NKC Parks & Recreation Center.  The NKC Fire and Police Departments have teamed up with the American Red Cross to host this community blood drive—and your donation can make a life-saving difference.  To schedule an appointment, call 800-733-2767 or visit www.redcrossblood.org and enter NKCPD.
