Friday Greetings,

Last week’s Community Shred Event was a success!  The City collected over 11,000 lbs of materials and had 65 participants. Special thanks to Parks & Recreation staff who helped out with this event.

On Monday, Keenan Gray and Andrew Bunting started as NKC Fire Department’s newest Firefighter/EMTs.   Fire Apparatus Engineer Joe Irick is retiring May 1 after 33 years of service with the City.

During the 2021 school year, the Norclay Building on Howell Street will be used by school pupils who normally attend Briarcliff Elementary while Briarcliff undergoes renovation.  The Police Department is working with the School District on plans for circulation in the area.

The Animal Vaccination Event will be Saturday, May 1 at City Hall from 2-4 p.m.  This event provides free rabies shots for pets of residents of North Kansas City (NKC residents only).  Residents will also be able to get their annual pet license. Licenses are free to all spayed or neutered pets; otherwise, the cost is $5 per pet. Other vet services are available for a fee, no checks accepted.

The City is redesigning our website and would like your input. Please click the link below to take a quick online survey to tell us how we can improve the site.  www.surveymonkey.com/r/3VMJJKB

The City is currently seeking applications for the North Kansas City Hospital Board of Trustees and the Liquor Control Board.  To learn more about these Boards, please visit www.nkc.org/government/boards_and_commissions and click on the Boards and Commissions Handbook.  The Boards and Commissions Application Form can be found on this webpage.  For questions regarding the boards, please contact City Clerk Crystal Doss at (816) 412-7815.

On Tuesday, May 25, the City Council will hold a virtual Special Council Meeting to discuss the City’s current development process.  This meeting will be live streamed on the City’s Spectrum Cable Channel 2, the City’s YouTube Channel and on www.nkc.org/live.  Public comment will not be taken during the virtual Special Council Meeting, but residents, business owners, and other stakeholders are invited to review the City Council Work Session videos on the City’s Master Plan and development process and provide feedback regarding the future of the City’s development process.  To access the City Council Work Session videos focusing on the City’s Master Plan and development process, and to provide feedback for City Council review, please visit www.nkc.org/ED.

Help for local families struggling financially due to the COVID-19 pandemic is available through a program being administered by Clay County. The Emergency Rental Assistance Program can help families who rent their homes get caught up on past due rent and utility bills.  If you are eligible, make sure to fill out an interest form by clicking the button on our Rental Assistance Portal, which can be found here: https://www.claycountymo.gov/transparency/erap.
