Friday Greetings,

Justin Jones has joined the Police Department and will start Field Training on Friday, August 30.  He is already POST-certified.  Justin comes to us from Shawnee PD and previously worked at Smithville PD.  Welcome aboard!

Community Development issued a building permit for the new QuikTrip at 1401 Armour this week. The contractor is expected to mobilize the week of August 26.

Assistant City Administrator Kim Nakahodo was the guest speaker at the North Kansas City Rotary Club today.  She gave an update on development projects around North Kansas City. 

On Monday, August 19, Gentry Street between Armour Road to 21st Avenue will be closed to thru traffic from 6:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. for concrete repairs to City Hall.

There is no City Council Work Session on Tuesday, August 20.

Confident City Cycling: In conjunction with the development of the NKC Bicycle Master Plan, the City and BikeWalkKC are offering a free course on Confident City Cycling in North Kansas City. This three-session course covers state and local rules for urban bicycling, how to fix a flat, and provides real-world practice in riding on the street. Experienced instructors guide the class at your pace so you feel comfortable and confident on your bike. This course is for adults and teens 14+ and will be held at the Parks & Rec Center with bicycling around NKC. Maintain Your Ride: In addition, the City and BikeWalkKC are also offering a free course on how to Maintain Your Ride. This course provides all the skills you need to keep your bike rolling smoothly in one session. Learn how to clear and lube your drive train, fix a flat, adjust your brakes and shifters, and more. This course is for adults and teens 14+ with an adult. The class is free, but advance registration is required. The class will be held on Saturday, September 14th from 10:30am to 1:30pm at the North Kansas City YMCA. MoDOT is currently hosting an online meeting to gather public input on alternatives for a new Buck O’Neil Bridge. Four potential alternatives are being studied in more detail and the online meeting presents an overview of each of them. There is a feedback survey gathering public input. Changes to the Buck O’Neil Bridge are expected to have an impact on North Kansas City; please participate in the online meeting and share your feedback through the survey. https://www.modot.org/buck-oneil-environmental-study-online-public-meeting.
