The new City Council will be seated at the Tuesday, June 16 City Council Meeting.

The City Council established the CARES Small Business Grant Program on June 2, 2020, to be administered by the Northland Clay County EDC. This program will issue $150,000 in grant funds to small businesses in North Kansas City.  Small businesses can apply for a grant up to $5,000 to reimburse business expenses related to COVID‐19.  CARES Small Business Grant Applications accepted from June 3 to 11:59 p.m. on June 14, 2020.  For more information and application, visit www.nkc.org/departments/administration/c_o_v_i_d-19_information_and_resources/c_a_r_e_s_fund_business_grant_program

The City has been working on implementing a winter sewer averaging option for customers who would be interested in this option. As part of preparing for the implementation of this, an error occurred that caused the water and sewer utility bills dated May 29, 2020 for all 5/8 inch metered residential accounts to be incorrect. The sewer portion of the bill was based on an average consumption from November 2019 through April 2020, instead of actual consumption for the period of April 19, 2020 to May 19, 2020.

City Finance Department staff was made aware of the incorrect bill this week and has been working with the City’s utility billing software provider to provide corrected bills for all residential 5/8 inch metered accounts. The corrected bills will be mailed shortly. The affected bills will reflect sewer charges based on consumption from April 19 to May 19, and will reflect any payments processed before the corrected bill is mailed.

Please contact the City’s main phone line at 816-274-6000 or email Nick Hawkins, Finance Manager at nhawkins@nkc.org if you have any questions.

The Clay County Public Health Center released a new dashboard to display the four metrics they are using to gauge the county's ability to track, treat, and prevent COVID-19 cases. These metrics are hospital capacity, public health capacity, testing capacity, and case rates.  To review the new dashboard, visit clayhealth.com/data.
