Friday Greetings,

The Snake Saturday banner has been hung over Armour Road to promote the upcoming event.

Waggin’ Trail Park will be closed March 6 to April 2, reopening on April 3.  The park will be closed for turf maintenance which includes filling holes, aerating and seeding the grounds.  The park will remain closed after all the work is completed to allow the seeds to take root.  Parks staff will notify visitors about this closure with social media posts, and closed signs in the park and the park entry kiosk.  This closure will allow the new grass to become established with the goal of having a green turf for the spring season.

Mayor Stielow and Councilmembers DeLong, Clevenger, Pearce, Steffen and Stewart attended the Clay County EDC Annual State of the Cities event this afternoon.  Assistant City Administrator Kim Nakahodo presented the address on behalf of the City.  This event features economic development updates from cities across Clay County.

The Yard Waste Program will begin on March 4, and continues every Wednesday through December.  Yard waste (leaves and grass clippings) must be placed in biodegradable paper bags.  Bags are available at City Hall at the discounted price of 10 bags for $2.  Plastic bags and non-biodegradable materials are not accepted.  Small tree branches are accepted; however, they must be bundled and cannot exceed 4 feet in length.

The Public Works Department is offering commercial properties in North Kansas City a grant to beautify and improve the “curb appeal” of their facilities.  Participation in the program helps foster a stronger partnership between the City and local businesses.  Applications may be obtained by going to the City’s website, www.nkc.org (see the News section on the Homepage or the Business tab at the top) or by contacting Victoria in the Public Works Office at 816-274-6004 or emailing vlressler@nkc.org. The application deadline is Friday, March 6, 2020.

The North Kansas City High School will host a ‘Hornet Housewarming’ event from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday, March 7 with a dedication ceremony at Noon.  The high school will offer visitor tours of the newly renovated North Kansas City High School during this event.
