Friday Greetings,

Weather forecasters are calling for accumulations of up to 4 inches of snow beginning on Friday, January 14, and continuing through Saturday, January 15.  Municipal Services crews will place mobile Emergency Snow Route/No Parking signs on both sides of Armour Road between Fayette and Linn Streets this afternoon.  During a declared snow emergency, vehicles are prohibited from parking on Armour Road between Fayette and Linn Streets.  All parked vehicles must be moved from Armour Road between Fayette and Linn Streets by 5 p.m. on Friday, January 14, 2022.  Parking may resume once the snow emergency has been deactivated.  The City will announce the activation and deactivation of the emergency snow route on its website, Textcaster, and social media channels.

Mr. Tony Osborn has requested that his name be removed from the upcoming April 5, 2022, City Council election ballot.  This year's election is for one Councilmember from Wards 1, 2, 3, and 4.  Candidates are listed in the order they will appear on the ballot.

Due to the recent surge of COVID-19 in our community, our Tuesday, January 18, 2022, Special and Regular City Council Meetings will be held remotely via Zoom.  The public is invited to participate during Comments from the Public by phone or via Zoom.  This decision was not made lightly but was made in the community's best interest to maintain government operations by protecting the health, safety, and welfare of all attendees.

The new City Hall payment dropbox has been installed.  The new box is located a few feet south of the previous dropbox. 

Government Finance Officers Association of the United States and Canada (GFOA) has awarded the Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting to the City of North Kansas City for its annual comprehensive financial report for the fiscal year ended September 30, 2020.  The report has been judged by an impartial panel to meet the high standards of the program, which includes demonstrating a constructive "spirit of full disclosure" to clearly communicate its financial story and motivate potential users and user groups to read the report.  The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in the area of governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management. 

The last Christmas tree pickup will be Wednesday, January 19, 2022.  To be eligible for collection, tress must not have tinsel, lights, or any items not originally part of the tree.  Place the tree where you usually place your yard waste.  

City offices will be closed on Monday, January 17, in observation of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.

Get your preschooler active mentally and physically with Preschool Playtime! - Saturdays, February 5-26 from 11-11:50 a.m.  In this four-week program, we will play games, so your preschooler can get moving and have fun!  Each week we will listen and dance to music that will develop gross motor skills, play games like noodle tag, navigate through obstacle courses, and more!  Ages 4-6; fee is $30.  Classes will be at the North Kansas City Parks and Recreation Center.  Register by January 28.  To register, call 816-300-0545 or online at https://nkcparksandrec.org/playtime.

Parks & Recreation is offering Beginning Cheer from February 5 through March 26 from 12:15–1:15 p.m.  Students will learn cheer routines, basic form, and technique.  At the end of the 8-week session, they will perform for their parents.  Students will receive a set of pom-poms and a t-shirt.  Ages 6-10; fee is $80 per session.  Classes will be at the NKC Parks and Recreation Center.  Register by Friday, January 28.  To register, call us at 816-300-0545 or online at www.nkcparksandrec.org/cheer.

Help for local families struggling financially due to the COVID-19 pandemic is available through a program being administered by Clay County.  The Emergency Rental Assistance Program can help families who rent their homes get caught up on past due rent and utility bills.  If you are eligible, make sure to fill out an interest form by clicking the button on our Rental Assistance Portal, which can be found here: https://www.claycountymo.gov/transparency/erap.
