Friday Greetings,

At the Tuesday, December 15 City Council Meeting, the City Council directed staff to distribute the City’s remaining CARES funds to the Northland Assistance Center to help individuals and families directly impacted by a loss of income due to the COVID-19 public health emergency.  On Thursday, the Northland Assistance Center received $38,000 to distribute to NKC residents in financial need and $1,900 in administrative fees.  If you know of anyone in financial need, please have them contact the Northland Assistance Center at (816) 421-2243.

Justin Friedel will join the North Kansas City Police Department on December 28. Justin comes to us from Smithville – welcome aboard!  On January 11, 2021, we will have 6 police cadets begin their training at the Regional Police Academy.

The lights on the Armour Archway have been acting up lately.  As some have been repaired, others have gone out.  City staff is working to effect full repairs as quickly as possible.

For the second time in three years, Assistant City Administrator Kim Nakahodo has received the “Chris Traeger” award from the Engaging Local Government Leaders (ELGL) organization.  The ELGL Traeger Award recognizes top influencers in local government.  The award is named for Chris Traeger, the city manager for the fictional City of Pawnee, Indiana on the show "Park and Recreation." He was known for extreme energy and commitment to improving local government.  Congratulations, Kim!

Candidate filing began on Tuesday, December 15 at City Hall.  This year’s election is for one Councilmember from Wards 1, 2, and 3, and two from Ward 4. The Mayor is elected at large. Below is a list of the people who have filed as a candidate for elected office in the April 6, 2021 election. Candidates are listed as they are filed.
