New Year’s Eve Greetings,

Officer Justin Friedel was sworn in on Monday, December 28.  Officer Friedel comes to the Department with 7 years of police officer experience with the Smithville, Mo., Police Department. Welcome aboard!

Holiday Information:
* City offices will be closed on Friday, January 1.  
* Trash service for Friday, January 1, 2021, will occur as usual. 
* Christmas tree pickup will be available on January 6, 13, 20. Trees must be devoid of tinsel, lights, and all items not originally part of the tree.  Place trees where you put yard waste. 

The City’s Yard Waste Collection Program ended on Wednesday, December 30, 2020, and will resume on Wednesday, March 3, 2021. 

Weather forecasters have issued a Winter Storm Watch for Thursday, December 31 beginning at 9 p.m. On Thursday morning, Municipal Services crews will place mobile Emergency Snow Route/No Parking signs on both sides of Armour Road between Fayette and Linn Streets.  During a declared snow emergency, vehicles are prohibited from parking on Armour Road between Fayette and Linn Streets.  All parked vehicles must be moved from Armour Road between Fayette and Linn Streets by 4 p.m. on Thursday, December 31.  Parking may resume once the snow emergency has been deactivated.  The City will announce the activation and deactivation of the emergency snow route on its website, Textcaster and social media channels. 

Candidate filing began on Tuesday, December 15 at City Hall.  This year’s election is for mayor and one councilmember from Wards 1, 2, and 3, and two from Ward 4. The mayor is elected at large. Below is a list of the people who have filed as a candidate for elected office in the April 6, 2021 election. Candidates are listed as they are filed. Filing closes on January 19, 2021.  The order that the names will appear on the ballot is determined by a lottery drawing which will be completed by the City Clerk after filing has closed.
