Friday Greetings,

We have received complaints that our leaf vacuums are leaving a dusty residue on the street.  Municipal Services reports that there is indeed an unusual amount of dust and pieces of leaves coming out of our leaf vacuum machines.  This is occurring with both of the City’s machines, both our new one and the 1993 model. Staff believes this is caused by the leaves falling from the trees later this year than usual, leaving them with little moisture when they reach the ground.  When the leaves go through the vacuum blades it pulverizes them into dust.  We have noticed similar issues with our street sweepers.  Staff contacted the leaf vacuum’s manufacturer to see if anything can be done about this issue.  The manufacturer reported that other cities have called with the same problem this year. No solutions have have been identified yet.

Municipal Services crews painted the curb yellow with reflective beads added around the island in the vicinity of Armour Road and Knox Street. In addition, a reflective yellow median marker sign was installed facing motorists on Knox. These measures were taken because of reports the island was hard to see, especially at night, for motorists on Knox turning left (eastbound).

Armour Road between Linn Street and Fayette Street has been designated as an emergency snow route.  Emergency snow route signs were installed along Armour Road on Thursday.  In a snow emergency, staff will also place portable signs near parking spaces to alert motorists that on-street parking is not allowed along Armour Road.
