Friday Greetings,

In response to the global Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) crisis, the City Council voted to extend the NKC mask order until 12:01 a.m. on Saturday, November 20, 2021. The Order requires individuals, regardless of vaccination status, to wear a mask indoors in areas of public accommodation. These spaces include, but are not limited to, grocery and retail stores, special events, and public transit, but do not include private dwellings or private transportation vehicles.  For more information visit www.nkc.org/coronavirus.

The City Council discussed draft Redistricting Ward Maps at Tuesday’s City Council Work Session.  The Council modified several maps which will be shared with the community to provide additional feedback early next week.  To watch the Work Session, please follow this link:  https://youtu.be/kLIV4J3BvlM

This week the NKC Fire Department held the Apparatus Engineer Test. Five individuals tested for the promotion and results will be presented next week. The test consists of a cone course and street driving, setting up the Ariel (ladder truck) with stabilizers, calculating the correct pump pressure for different scenarios, a written exam, and a panel oral interview.

North Kansas City Parks & Recreation is hosting the Ghouls & Goblins Costume Contest in conjunction with the Spooky Snake Saturday Stationary Parade! Contest will be held Saturday, October 23 from 10-11 a.m. at the Festival Shelter in Macken Park for ages 4-13. For more information and contest rules go to www.nkcparksandrec.org/contestinfo.

Grab your girlfriends for an evening dedicated to women’s health and wellness for a Ladies Night Out on Friday, November 5 from 5:30-8 p.m. Enjoy massages, educational booths, wine, and hors d'oeuvres. Take time to socialize, speak to our health experts, and spoil yourself. Space limited. Register at https://nkcparksandrec.org/ladiesnightout.

North Kansas City Parks and Recreation is taking donations for hats and scarves for our Feel the Warmth project! We are accepting hats and scarves, either handmade or store bought (with tags). Please turn your donations in at the Parks & Recreation Center by Friday, November 12. The week of November 22, anyone who needs a little extra warmth for the winter season will be able to find them available on the fence line of our local parks: Waggin' Trail Dog Park, Macken Park, and Dagg Park. Visit https://nkcparksandrec.org/feelthewarmth for information. For questions, contact Coti at dmeier@nkc.org.

Help for local families struggling financially due to the COVID-19 pandemic is available through a program being administered by Clay County. The Emergency Rental Assistance Program can help families who rent their homes get caught up on past due rent and utility bills.  If you are eligible, make sure to fill out an interest form by clicking the button on our Rental Assistance Portal, which can be found here: https://www.claycountymo.gov/transparency/erap.
