Friday Greetings,

  • Parks & Recreation will be hosting the Howl-O-Ween at Waggin’ Trail Dog Park event next Saturday, October 13 from 1-2:30 p.m.

     

  • Ian McKay, Firefighter /EMT will begin working for the City on October 17th.Danny O’Connor, Park Maintenance Worker, will begin on October 24th.Welcome!

     

  • Sgt. Dan Justus and Officer Rick Landon will be receiving the Gold Award for Valor from the Kansas City Metro Chiefs and Sheriffs Association for their actions in January of this year.  You may recall that Officer Landon was shot by a subject while attempting to arrest him near the Sunny Hills apartment complex.  Both Officer Landon and Sgt. Justus returned fire on the suspect and Sgt. Justus chased the individual through the wooded area north of Sunny Hills and was able to capture him.  The awards ceremony will be on November 16th

     

  • The City received notification this week that, as has been in the case for every fiscal year since 2002, the City has received the Government Finance Officers Association (GFOA)’s Certificate of Achievement for Excellence in Financial Reporting for its FY 2017 document.The Certificate of Achievement is the highest form of recognition in governmental accounting and financial reporting, and its attainment represents a significant accomplishment by a government and its management.Congratulations to Finance Manager Shirley Land and her staff for once again receiving this award.

     

  • The City has received an application for a demolition permit for the building located at 2000 Clay, the old Clayton Hotel.Demolition is expected to commence in the next couple of weeks.

     

  • The City will be on the program at next week’s Northland Coffee Connect at iWerx on Wednesday, October 17.The City will provide an activity update, focusing primarily on recent development/redevelopment activities.

     

  • The City’s annual employee banquet will be held on Friday, October 19, at Harrah’s.
