City Services and Program Changes

The health and safety of our community is our highest priority.  The Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) continues to spread throughout the country.  At this time, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Clay County.  Staff is working with public health officials and emergency management professionals to monitor and adjust operations for the global COVID-19 or coronavirus outbreak.

In an effort to continue to protect our residents, visitors, and employees, and reduce the spread of the COVID-19, the City of North Kansas City announces the following changes in services, closures, and cancellations.

City Facilities

Fire Stations 1 & 2 will remain closed to the public.  City Hall lobby is open Monday through Friday, 8 a.m. to Noon and 1-5 p.m.  Customers are encouraged to conduct business with the City through City’s website, phone or email. 

Public Meetings

City Council and Planning Commission Meetings

City Council and Planning Commission Meetings will be held remotely for the safety of the City Council, Commissioners, employees, and the public. Meetings will be broadcast via the City’s YouTube Channel and Channel 2 (Spectrum).

The following events have been canceled and will be rescheduled at a future date:

Water Utility Bills & Service

Customers may continue to make payments through the drop box located at City Hall, by mail or online.  Customers are encouraged to pay their utility bills via the City’s online payment portal.  Due to COVID-19 pandemic, shutoffs are currently suspended and late fees will be waived.

Building Permits/Code Enforcement/Fire Inspections and Plan Review

Plan review, construction inspections and certificate of occupancy final inspections can be scheduled by calling 816-274-6006.  Customers can continue to drop off plans for review by utilizing the Police Department lobby located at 2020 Howell Street.  Please call the Police non-emergency dispatch number at 816-274-6013 to gain access to the dropbox for oversized packages in the Police Department lobby.

Police Department

The police department has implemented operational adjustments including restricted access, and encouraging citizens to report certain types of incidents over the phone instead of utilizing critical emergency resources to respond to their location.  Animal Control will continue operations, but the facility will only be accessible by appointment only.  When requesting police services, please continue to call 9-1-1 for emergencies and 816-274-6013 for non-emergencies and past occurred incidents.

Fire Department

The fire department has implemented operational adjustments including the suspension of non-essential activities including public outreach and fire station tours.   When requesting fire or EMS services, please continue to call 9-1-1 for emergencies and 816-274-6025 for non-emergencies.

North Kansas City Municipal Court

The court has continued the following Municipal Court dockets to a later date:

March 23
April 6, 13, 20
May 4, 11

Municipal Court operations will resume with heavily modified procedures and court dockets for June 1, 8, 22 & 29.

All prisoner arraignments will continue as usual via video conferencing. Municipal Court customers can pay their court payments by mail, the drop box located at City Hall or online.

North Kansas City Parks & Recreation

Effective June 1, 2020, the following facilities and amenities will be open for the community while practicing 6 foot social distancing is strongly encouraged.
Waggin’ Trail Park
Tennis/Pickleball Courts
Handball Courts
Exercise stations
Shelter usage at maximum of 50 capacity
Parks and Recreation Center will be open Monday- Saturday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Room rentals available at maximum 50 capacity
Field rental/usage

Effective June 26, 2020, Special Events will resume while practicing 6 foot social distancing is strongly encouraged.  These facilities and amenities are still closed to the community for use or participation.
o All playgrounds
o Dagg Park spray ground
o Senior Adult programs

Pratt Fountain will remain turned off until we are able to open Dagg Park.  This will minimize the temptation to play in the water.

North Kansas City Library

North Kansas City Public Library is pleased to announce the initial phase of a return to normal operations later this month, as local stay-at-home orders expire throughout the metro area.

Beginning Tuesday, May 26, the Library will offer curbside pick-up of hold items. Starting that day, patrons may place Library holds online, or call the Library to place holds. Once items are available, patrons may call to schedule a pickup time in the Library’s designated parking lot pickup area.

To maintain the recommended social distancing guidance, this transfer process will be entirely touchless. Currently, the Library plans to offer curbside service Monday-Thursday (10 am-2 pm and 4-8 pm), Friday (10 am-5 pm), and Saturday (10 am-4 pm). These curbside pickup times may be adjusted, if needed.

liNKCity Customers

KC Fiber/liNKCity is temporarily removing the capacity limits for liNKCity customers. This will enable those liNKCity customers to utilize increased internet capacity to be more effective in whatever work-related tasks they need to do.
